Specialized Ventilator Services

Oak Tree is one of the first long-term care facilities in New Jersey to offer a Ventilator Care Unit. Patients benefit from our expertise and understanding of the challenges faced by individuals requiring ventilators.

Our goal is to enable patients to enjoy their typical activities to the greatest extent possible, whether those include an outdoor barbecue, visits with family and friends, or simply enjoying a beautiful sunset.

Patients on ventilators have complex needs, and we are committed to helping patients make ongoing improvements while experiencing greater comfort.

Our highly experienced interdisciplinary team works with each resident to develop a comprehensive, individualized care plan. The plan is monitored and adapted to reflect the patient’s progress and potential for weaning from the ventilator.

Care team members include:

  • Board-certified medical director
  • Pulmonologists
  • Respiratory therapists on site 24-hours a day
  • Registered nurses trained on ventilator care, restorative support and infusion therapy
  • Speech, hearing, physical and occupational therapists
  • Recreation therapists
  • Social worker
  • Registered dietitian

Recreation therapy is a special part of each patient’s care by helping to improve function and serve as a means of relaxation. Services reflect each patient’s interests, needs and abilities on a private or group basis. Day trips, educational programs, pet therapy, horticulture therapy and special events are included.

Social work services include support and assistance to residents and family members during the transition from acute care. When discharge is an option, the social worker coordinates all appropriate arrangements.

Nutrition is an important aspect of care for ventilator-dependent patients. At Oak Tree, the registered dietitian, food service director and nurses monitor both therapeutic and enteral diets.

JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree is an ideal choice for specialized care for patients on ventilators. We look forward to offering you or a loved one progressive care with a personal touch.
