JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence

JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree started its journey of excellence in 1987. Today, twenty years later, the nursing, convalescent and rehabilitation center can accommodate 120 inpatients on a daily basis. The Center serves residents from the local community as well as statewide and beyond for our specialized services such as ventilator and brain injury rehabilitation. "Long-term care facilities, such as Hartwyck at Oak Tree, are valuable resources to the community that are often overlooked," says Dawn Giakas, MPH, LNHA, CALA, Administrator of JFK Hartwyck Oak Tree. Oak Tree and like facilities are utilized for those with chronic illness requiring long-term, end-of-life care, sub acute rehabilitation and respite care." The Center, located in Edison, has demonstrated that caring for residents, although seldom easy, is a labor of love. "Our team of healthcare professionals are truly everyday heroes, but seldom, if ever, make the evening news," Giakas continues. The care we provide has earned JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree a top notch reputation in the community for exceptional, quality patient care.

When Oak Tree first opened, its mission was to provide the highest quality care to its residents, and 20 years later it remains committed to that mission. To commemorate this milestone anniversary in partnering with families and caregivers, JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree held 2 special events during the month of June. The first was an internal employee celebration to recognize the dedication of the Oak Tree staff and their service to the community and specialized populations. On 6/20, approximately 150 employees and members of Administration and the medical staff enjoyed an evening of food, music and good company on the patio at Oak Tree.

On June 21st, Oak Tree held a community Health Fair with representatives on hand from Adult Medical Day Care, Pediatric Weight Management, the Hartwyck Facilities, Whispering Knoll Assisted Living and Home Health Care. Local community members who attended the Community Health Fair were able to obtain health information and screenings such as weight and fitness management, blood pressure screenings, and educational information. Additionally, community members had the opportunity to speak with healthcare professionals regarding services that may benefit their loved ones.

But, most importantly, "there was something for everyone," says Giakas. Family members -- young and old, enjoyed activities such as table-top games, live entertainment including music and a clown, along with beverages, snacks and giveaways."

Thanks to all who attended these events and made them a huge success!
